I am a Director – Investments at Oppenheimer & Co. Inc. (“Oppenheimer”) in the Birmingham, MI office.  I work with retirees and soon-to-be retirees, and provide professional money management using risk reduction techniques.  As a member of Omega Portfolio Management, I include a portfolio allocation in various asset classes, as well as option strategies to help lower risks.  I also have a great number of clients who rely on me to exercise investment discretion over their accounts.  Where appropriate, I use my knowledge and experience with annuities and life insurance to address the sometimes unexpected longer and shorter life span protection of families. Long term care coverage has become an important consideration.

For over 40 years, I have operated under the belief that the most important money in the world is yours.  Based on my experience and depth of knowledge, I take care to understand each client’s unique needs and desire for a secure financial future. I focus on helping my clients craft a plan tailored to their specific situations and to address their goals.

I began my career by selling life insurance and mutual funds while attending Oakland University in Rochester Hills, MI. I graduated with honors, with a B.A in Psychology, and with no student debt.  I hold the FINRA Series 7 license, earned the Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designation from  the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc., and I am also licensed for Life and Health Insurance.

Michael O’Shaughnessey is a Director – Investments at Oppenheimer & Co. Inc. in Birmingham, MI. Michael has more than 30 years’ experience in the financial services industry, and has guided clients through various market and economic cycles.

Michael is a graduate of Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, MI. with a degree in Economics, Political Science and Accounting. He has a history of helping people. Orphaned while still in high school, he looked after his sister younger by 4 years and managed their small inheritance so as to provide their college educations and later buy homes for his sister and himself. Ever since he has devoted his life’s work to helping others reach their life goals. His passion is helping people plan and invest for their future, educating them on what it means to be diversified in various asset categories and employ dogged persistence in staying the course.

When asked to explain, he said, “First thing I have learned, and this is my mantra – The clients’ interests must always come first! I look after my client‘s interests just like I looked after my sister’s, so many years ago. I have found that experience counts in investing. Not that we can predict the future, but that we can hopefully manage those emotional and investment challenges that lay ahead for each of us. I have found that it is best to never try to make long-term investment decisions out of short term disruptions. In other words, don’t jump out of the boat in a storm you might drown!”

Michael has earned his FINRA Series 1, 63, and 65 Registrations, and is licensed for Life and Health Insurance.
