Oppenheimer Life Agency, Ltd. August 22, 2023

Joshua, 46, is married with 2 children. He works in finance and enjoys bike riding in his free time. One evening, while riding his bike in the designated bike lane, Joshua was suddenly struck by a hit and run vehicle that swerved off the road. Luckily, a bystander was able to snap a picture of the license plate as the driver sped away. This accident left Joshua in critical condition with injuries that required extensive physical therapy in order for him to regain enough strength to walk and take on everyday activities.

Due to the nature of his injuries, Joshua experienced extensive pain and suffering and was unable to work for months. He and his attorney initiated a claim against the driver’s insurance company, and as a result was set to receive a large settlement from the personal injury case.

He reached out to his financial advisor, Steve, to see if he could assist with the settlement proceedings. After discussing the case, Steve mentioned that Oppenheimer had a wealth management alliance with the Atlas Settlement Group, that could be a great help with this.

Steve arranged a meeting to introduce Joe from Atlas to Joshua and his attorney. In reviewing the case with Joshua, Joe questioned what Joshua’s goals were as it pertained to the settlement and his future. Being that Joshua is fairly young and has a family, but will require long-term physical therapy, they all came to agreement that a tax-free structured settlement annuity would be the right solution. The Structured Settlement Annuity will replace Joshua’s lost wages and provide intermediate lump sums for future medical needs – tax free.

Steve was happy that Oppenheimer had the Atlas Group on their platform, as they contributed to giving the best service to his client. And during this stressful time in Joshua’s life, he was so grateful to all parties involved as they eased the process and brought him to an optimal outcome.
