Oppenheimer Employees Make a Lifesaving Impact at Annual Blood Drive

Oppenheimer & Co. Inc. March 03, 2025

This year, Oppenheimer’s New York City Headquarters once again hosted a remarkable blood drive in support of those in need, marking the second consecutive year of their lifesaving efforts. In celebration of American Heart Month this February, dedicated employees stepped up to donate over 55 pints of blood, which will help save 165 lives.

A Community United by Giving

Every two seconds, someone in the United States is in need of blood, and one out of every three people will need a blood transfusion in their lifetime. Recognizing this urgent need, Oppenheimer employees came together to give the gift of life. The 55 units of blood donated will directly benefit patients requiring transfusions for cancer treatments, traumatic injuries, anemia, sickle cell disease, and various blood disorders.

Some employees even participated in a specialized donation method known as ‘double red.’ Through a process called apheresis, donors are able to contribute two units of red blood cells, while plasma and platelets are safely returned to the donor. Double red donations are especially crucial for individuals battling blood disorders and those undergoing critical treatments, helping to address the specific needs of patients who require higher volumes of red blood cells.

Making a Difference, One Pint at a Time

The blood drive was a heartwarming reminder of the power of community and the tremendous impact that collective action can have. Donations made by employees will directly support hospital patients in need, offering a lifeline to those facing serious medical challenges. Their generosity highlights how every act of kindness, no matter how small, plays a vital role in saving lives. Thank you to all who participated and helped make this event a success!
